What The Lab Result collects when you register interest in an event, why, where it is kept, and how to be removed.

Who we are

The Lab Result is the trading name of THE LAB RESULT LTD, a company registered in England and Wales, company number 17251857, registered office 84 Albert Hall Mansions, Kensington Gore, London SW7 2AQ. We are registered with the Information Commissioner's Office, registration number ZC265835. Questions about your data go to events@thelabresult.com.

What we collect

When you register interest in an event we ask for:

  • your name and email address
  • whether you are a student, a parent or guardian, a teacher, or other
  • the student's school year
  • your school, if you choose to give it
  • a message, if you choose to write one

We also record the date and time you registered.

Why we collect it

To send you the venue, price, booking link and any changes for the event you registered for, and to tell you about related events for the audience you chose. That is the only use. We do not use your details for advertising, and we do not sell or share them.

After a session we email you a written summary of each talk. Each summary ends with the A-level topics behind the talk and links to free learning resources, which may include definitions on TRAYNA (trayna.co.uk), a revision app also founded by Dr Lavan Ganeshkumar and run by Trayna Ltd, a separate company. Following a link is your choice: we pass nothing about you to Trayna Ltd.

If you ask to hear from Ganes Academy

Parents and guardians who register are offered a separate, unticked box to hear about Ganes Academy, an A-level maths and science tuition practice also run by Dr Lavan Ganeshkumar. Ganes Academy Ltd is a separate company. If you tick the box, we pass your name and email address to Ganes Academy Ltd, which then emails you about its tuition, and every message has a way to unsubscribe. If you leave the box unticked, nothing is passed on, and registering and attending work exactly the same. We keep a record of the wording you saw and when. You can withdraw at any time by emailing us or Ganes Academy, and we will stop passing on and delete the record.

The basis for using it

Your consent, given by the box you tick when you register. You can withdraw it at any time by emailing us, and we will remove your details.

Students under 18

Students may register themselves. We ask for no more than a name, an email address and a school year, and we contact students only about the event. A parent or guardian can ask for a student's details to be removed by emailing us.

If you buy a ticket

Tickets are also sold on Eventbrite. If you book there, Eventbrite takes the payment and shares your order with us: your name, email address and the answers to its booking questions (the student's name and school year, your school, and a parent or guardian's contact). Eventbrite keeps its own records under its privacy notice at eventbrite.co.uk. We use the order only to confirm your place, contact you about the event and keep a register for the night.

Tickets on this site are sold through Stripe, a payment provider. When you book we ask for your name, email address and phone number, the student's name and school year, and your school if you choose to give it. Your card details go to Stripe and never reach us. Stripe also keeps its own records of the payment, under its own privacy notice at stripe.com/gb/privacy. We use your details to confirm your place, to contact you about the event, and to keep a register for the night.

After you pay we also ask, on this site, for an emergency contact, any allergies, dietary or access needs, and a photograph choice. The allergy and access information is health data: we ask for it only with your separate, explicit agreement, it is seen only by the organiser, and we erase it, and the emergency contact, within 30 days after the event. We keep the record of the payment for six years, as tax law requires.

Where it is kept

Registrations are stored with Google Cloud (Firebase), the service that also hosts this site, and are readable only by the organiser. They are never passed to Google Analytics or Google Ads.

How long we keep it

Only for as long as it is needed for the purpose above. We delete your details when you ask.

If you would like to speak

If you add yourself to our speakers list, or write to us about speaking, we keep what you gave us: your name, contact details, role, institution, field, a line on your work, the talk you could give, and any link you share. We use it only to decide whether to invite you to speak, and to contact you about it, now and for future sessions. We never publish your name, title or photograph without your written agreement for a specific session. Your details are readable only by the organiser. We review the list each year and delete anyone we have not been in touch with for two years, and we delete your entry at any time if you ask. If you speak for us, you are paid through our payroll, so we also hold what that needs: proof of your right to work in the UK, your National Insurance number, your starter checklist and your payslips, kept for the periods the law requires and shared with HMRC and our payroll provider.
